KARACHI: KU students' week begins
KARACHI, Sept 27: The vice-chancellor of Karachi University allowed students and heads of teaching departments to organize "extra-curricular activities" during students' week starting from Monday.
According to the vice-chancellor, Dr Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui, classes will remain suspended after 11:30am during the students' week and chairpersons of teaching departments will be allowed to hold extra-curricular activities after seeking permission from KU students' adviser.
He said that the departments had been allowed to hold Hamd, Naat, Qirat and debate competitions, seminars, students' court, poetry contests and photography contests. Each department would be allowed to reimburse vouchers of Rs3,000 for each such activity.
Dr Pirzada Qasim made it clear that intimidation to KU students' adviser was "necessary" before holding any extra- curricular activity. Besides, he said that students would not be allowed to play musical instruments including cassette players.
Use of microphones was allowed, but, the organizers must keep in view that their activities should not interrupt others' activity, he said, and added that the students' adviser office was authorized to deal with any complaint in this regard. -PPI
