ISLAMABAD, Sept 26: Prof. Dr Atta-ur-Rahman, Chairman of HEC, has informed the Sarhad University of Science and Information Technology (SUIT), Peshawar, that it does not meet the minimum criteria laid down by the cabinet for grant of the charter.

The charter would be cancelled on February 26, 2007 as already agreed by the cabinet and reiterated at the meeting of the Chancellors' Committee if they do not remove their deficiencies.

The inspection committee of the HEC ascertained the facilities of academic, financial, and physical infrastructure available with the university in relation to the criteria mandatory for each university, said an HEC press release here on Sunday.

The university in its current status is deficient in high quality faculty members, finances, appropriate land and does not seem viable for conduct of conventional classrooms, while it is offering degree programmes through the mode of distance education across the country. -APP
