26 Indian fishermen arrested


KARACHI, Sept 25: Pakistani authorities have arrested 26 Indian fishermen and seized their boats for fishing illegally in Pakistani territorial waters, an official said here on Saturday.

"We have arrested 26 Indian fishermen who were busy in fishing in our territorial waters," Pakistan's Maritime Security Agency (MSA) official Ali Sethi told AFP.

The arrests were made on Friday, Mr Sethi said, adding that they had also impounded four boats.

The MSA has handed over the Indian fishermen to police for further action.

Pakistani authorities arrested 44 Indian fishermen for fishing illegally in its waters on Sept 19.

Indian and Pakistani security agencies frequently arrest each other's fishermen for straying into rival waters.-AFP
