Singh links dialogue to 'cross-border terrorism'
NEW YORK, Sept 25: Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said on Friday evening that he had made it clear to President Pervez Musharraf that Pakistan has to stop 'cross border' terrorism to move ahead on the dialogue between the two nations.
In a written statement, issued following the meeting with the Pakistan president, which he described as 'historic', Mr Singh stressed: "India is completely sincere about finding solutions that will put the unhappy past behind. We both agreed on this approach."
"We both agreed that dialogue is the only way forward to find a solution to the outstanding issues between us," he added.
He told a press conference here at a hotel: "It [terrorism) did come up in our discussion and I mentioned unambiguously to President Musharraf that the starting point of the whole dialogue is the commitment given by Pakistan in the Jan 6, 2004, statement that territory under Pakistan's control will not be used for terrorist activities."
"We cannot discuss any substantive issue and CBMS if terrorist acts are not controlled... Therefore there should be no doubt that this is the pre-condition for moving forward," Mr Singh said.
