Election report presented


ISLAMABAD, Sept 25: Chief Election Commissioner Irshad Hasan Khan on Saturday called on the acting president and chairman of the Senate, Mohammadmian Soomro, and presented him the report on general elections 2002.

Mr Soomro appreciated the role of the Election Commission in the orderly conduct of the last general elections.

He lauded the initiative taken by the CEC in the establishment of the Federal Election Academy, to focus on the capacity building of the officers and staff of the Election Commission for strengthening the democratic processes.

Earlier, the CEC explained to Mr Soomro the role of the commission in conducting the general elections 2002 leading to the reinstatement of democratic institutions.

The CEC informed the acting president that the Election Commission took every possible step to have direct interaction with major stakeholders and leaders of the political parties with a view to ensure fair and transparent elections.-Staff Reporter
