HYDERABAD: Missing girl's case: Court summons PPP leader

By Our Correspondent

HYDERABAD, Sept 25: A bench of the Sindh High Court, Hyderabad, on Saturday summoned a People's Party Parliamentarians leader for Sept 27 after the DSP, CID, submitted that he had held a jirga in the matter of a missing girl.

DSP Hyder Bux Khoso in his report said despite efforts he could not find whereabouts of the 14-year-old girl, Nayab, missing since August 2003, and his investigation showed that PPP leader Makhdoom Fazal Hussain held a jirga, which was attended by complainant Abdul Rasheed Memon, the girl's father, and the accused.

He said the former investigating officer of the case, sub- inspector Hussain Bux Nizamani, intervened in the jirga and, thereafter, Mr Hussain closed the proceedings.

He claimed that Mr Hussain was the main person, who knew everything about the matter. He said he had been called through a notice but he had not appeared before police for recording his statement.

The inquiry team, comprising the SSP, CID, Zulfikar Junejo, and DSP Khoso, required to submit its findings in 15 days, was formed by the DIGP, investigation, Falak Sher, after Provincial Police Officer Syed Kamal Shah expressed dissatisfaction over the progress of the case and directed the RPO to take action against former investigating officers for spoiling the case.

The PPO noted that investigation officers had not recorded statements of witnesses under section 164, CrPC, and had not held identification parade of the accused before the court. He said they had also failed to recover the girl.

The PPO looked into the matter after Justice Azizullah Memon ordered him to hold an inquiry into the kidnapping of the girl, whose father claimed that since the SP, investigation, Fareed Jan Sarhandi, was directly involved in the matter, delay was being caused in recovery of his daughter.

Justice Memon asked the PPO to submit a report as to whether he was satisfied with the report of investigation officers and their efforts to recover the girl.

Rasheed Memon had sent an application to a member of an inspection team of the Sindh High Court, stating that on Aug 20, Achar, Mai Panai, drug dealer, Noor Mohammad, Sana and Shamaz kidnapped his daughter and when he reported the matter to the Hala police, SHO Hayat Rind, allegedly involved in the crime, refused to register an FIR.

He feared that the accused might kill his daughter and family members.

On Friday, the DSP said eight witnesses had recorded statements before him in response to his notice but Mr Hussain did not turn up at his office for investigation purpose on Sept 21.
