KARACHI: Ibad, Arbab discuss revival of KCR


KARACHI, Sept 24: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad stressing on revival of Karachi Circular Railway has said that the KCR will not only give an additional commuting facility to citizens, but also help protecting the track and its surroundings from encroachments.

The governor expressed these views while addressing a high- level meeting at the Governor's House on Friday. The meeting was attended by Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim, Railway Minister Mian Shamim Hyder, Finance Minister Syed Sardar Ahmed, Chief Secretary Aslam Sanjrani, Principal Secretary Brig Akhtar Zamin, Senior Member Board of Revenue Mirza Karim Baig, Secretary Law Ghulam Nabi Shah, Secretary Finance Malik Israr and other officials.

Mr Ibad stressed on effective measures to check encroachments and protect railway track against accidents. In this regard, he emphasized the need for preparing a plan for construction of protective walls and other barricades.

The meeting was also informed that the Railway and Export Processing Zone authorities would work jointly on the Mehran Bridge project at National Highway under Taameer-i-Karachi programme.

Meanwhile, the UN Resident Coordinator and Resident Representative of UNDP, Onder Yucer, called on Sindh Governor Ishratul Ibad and discussed various UN-sponsored schemes in the province.

The governor apprised the UN representative of ongoing efforts for maintaining law and order. He said that coordinated efforts were being made to improve economic and social sectors.

The government was making efforts to bring an overall change in the living standard of the common man, he maintained. He said attention was being paid on human resource development in private and public sectors and provision of employment. -APP
