LAHORE: Govt takes note of housing society ad

By Our Staff Reporter

LAHORE, Sept 24: The Punjab government has taken a notice of the recent advertisement in newspapers by a housing society offering plots to bureaucrats, generals, judges and assembly members.

According to a handout issued on Friday, the government was of the view in a circular that the tone and eligibility criteria for the proposed scheme was such that it offered clear inducement to public servants who were in a position to wield influence to participate in and benefit from a scheme.

The circular warned that according to the provision of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947 and the Punjab Civil Servants (Conduct) Rules 1966, acceptance of such benefits would amount to misconduct and attract punitive action under the relevant rules and laws for government servants.

NAZIM: District Nazim Mian Amer has said the City District Government will evolve a strategy for preventing the publication of misleading advertisements by the sponsors of housing schemes.

Talking to the people, the Nazim said every housing society sponsor would be required to give correct information in respect of number and size of plots and mode of payment. Those concealing the details would be proceeded against.

He said the elements trying to deprive the people of their hard-earned money by forming housing societies required to be dealt with an iron hand.
