WASHINGTON, Sept 23: Iraq's interim prime minister Iyad Allawi said on Thursday that Iraq was on the path to success and insisted that any delay of elections scheduled for January would be a victory for the insurgency.
Despite the ongoing violence and doubts as to whether elections can be held on time, Mr Allawi insisted before a joint session of the US Congress that Iraqis would go to the polls as planned.
"We already know that terrorists and former regime elements will do all they can to disrupt these election," Mr Allawi said. "There will be no greater success for the terrorists if we delay." -dpa
