MIRPURKHAS, Sept 22: People's Party Parliamentarians has condemned the conviction of former NA speaker Makhdoom Yousuf Raza Gilani by a NAB court and termed it a political victimisation of liberal and democratic forces.

"Gilani's conviction proves that the government wants to convict every Pakistani who is liberal and wants restoration of democracy in the country," the PPP MNA and central executive committee member Yusuf Talpur said in a statement here on Wednesday.

He said in the face of rising number of suicides committed by jobless youths, a PPP leader had been convicted on the allegations that he provided jobs to the unemployed.

Mr Talpur said whatever action being taken, the PPP leaders and workers would not change their loyalty. "Mr Gilani has added his name to the list of PPP leaders and workers who offered sacrifices for the restoration of democracy," he added.

The PPP leader demanded withdrawal of case against the former speaker and release him forthwith and asked the govt to desist from continuing victimisation campaign.
