KARACHI, Sept 22: Eight persons, including three workers of the Awami National Party, died in separate road accidents in different areas on Wednesday.
Police said that a speeding truck hit a car (AFK-709) and a rickshaw on Super Highway near Al-Asif Square. Three ANP workers, Haji Milad Khan, Hasan Khan and Afzal Khan, who were travelling in the car, died on the spot.
A woman identified as Parveen travelling in the rickshaw and three other persons suffered minor injuries. The bodies were shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for postmortem examination. The injured victims were rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for treatment.
In Gadap, two teenagers died in a hit-and-run accident on Wednesday. Police said that Yar Mohammad, 14, and Ismail, 15, were on a motorcycle when a speeding truck knocked them down on the Super Highway link road. Their bodies were shifted to the JPMC for legal formalities.
In Qayumabad, a young motorcyclist was knocked down by a speeding truck on early Wednesday morning. Police said that Fawwad Jamshad, 23, died in the accident. His body was later shifted to the JPMC for legal formalities.
On Mauripur Road, a 25-year-old man died in a hit-and-run accident. According to police, the pedestrian was crossing the main road when an unknown speeding vehicle hit him.
He was taken to Civil Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead. In Quaidabad, a motorcyclist was knocked down to death. His body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for autopsy.
ARRESTED: Six policemen of Thatta district were arrested under Police Order when they fled after hitting a lady doctor on Rashid Minhas Road. Police said that a police mobile hit and injured Dr Erum of the Liaquat National Hospital on Rashid Minhas Road. Leaving the injured on the road, the police mobile escaped.
Learning about the accident, Gulshan-i-Iqbal Town Police Officer Abdul Khaliq Shaikh traced out the mobile at NIPA, which turned out to be an escort vehicle of the DPO Thatta. The driver of the mobile was booked for the accident while rest of the five policemen sitting in the mobile were booked for negligence in duty.
BANK DACOITY: Bandits looted around Rs3.5 million from Soneri Bank in Nazimabad on Wednesday morning. Police said that six armed men using a motorcycle and a car came to the bank branch located near Gol Market.
After snatching weapons from the two guards, who were reportedly sitting inside the bank, they collected cash and made their escape along with the snatched weapons. Besides, blaming the bank guards for their negligence, police said that the bank had three alarms and none of them sounded.
BODY FOUND: The body of a middle-aged man was recovered from a house in North Nazimabad on Wednesday. Police said that the trussed-up body of the victim, later identified as Illyas, was recovered when neighbours complained of stench coming out from the house. The case was being investigated, they said.
