KARRACHI: Muttahida activist shot dead

KARACHI, Sept 21: An activist of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement was shot dead in Liaquatabad late on Monday night.

Police said that Abdul Rasheed, 45, was standing at a shop near Al Karam Square when two suspects on a motorcycle opened fire at him and escaped. A passer by identified as Adnan, 19, also sustained a bullet wound in the firing.

Both the victims were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where Rasheed was pronounced dead while Adnan was provided treatment. Following the incident, tension prevailed in the area and shops were closed down immediately. On Tuesday morning, shops and other businesses remained closed in reaction to Monday's killing.

ARRESTED: Police arrested a bandit following a cash snatching incident in PECHS on Tuesday. According to police, a suspect intercepted Kashif Ismail, who came out of a bank after withdrawing Rs9,000. The armed suspect deprived him of cash at gunpoint and fled.

Kashif immediately called '15' on which SI Mohammad Akram and ASI Hamid rushed to the spot on Tariq Road and after a short chase arrested the suspect. Police claimed recovery of a TT pistol and the snatched amount from his possession.
