Protests break out in Germany

BERLIN, Sept 19: Hundreds of demonstrators staged an impromptu protest against the far-right in front of the state assembly in the east German city of Dresden on Sunday after extremist parties made strong gains in two states, NTV rolling news channel reported.

Scuffles had broken out between police and the largely left-wing crowd, which gathered within hours of the first exit polls showing the neo-Nazi National Democratic Party winning with a startling nine per cent of the vote in Saxony, NTV said. -AFP
