PPP denies deal with govt

Bureau Report

HYDERABAD, Sept 18: The president of the People's Party Parliamentarians, Sindh, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, has said that general elections will certainly be held the next year.

He was talking to newsmen and speaking at a reception hosted by the city chapter of the party at the press club on Saturday.

Mr Shah said no deal had been signed between his party and the government and made it clear that the PPP would never compromise on principles.

He said Benazir Bhutto had not prepared any road map or given any schedule about her return to Pakistan.

He said the PPP would bring her back with the support of the people.

He said had not the MMA supported the government on making the LFO a part of the constitution, the issue of uniform would have been resolved by now.

Replying to a question about any cooperation between the MMA and his party to launch a joint struggle on the uniform issue, Mr Shah said both the parties had their own programmes.

He said the talks were going on between the MMA and PPP central leadership.

He claimed that 99 per cent of the people were fed up with the rulers wearing uniforms.

Expressing concern over the shortage of water in Sindh, the provincial president of the PPP strongly opposed the construction of dams. He said the rulers were creating issues to confuse the people.

He said the economy was in shambles and due to poverty and unemployment, the people were forced to commit suicides.

He said with the return of Benazir Bhutto, all the economic and political problems of masses would be resolved.

MNA Amir Ali Jamote, MPAs Zahid Bhurgari, Farheen Mughal, Maula Bux Chandio, Sattar Buchani and Usman Kennedy spoke on the occasion.

Mr Shah was given a rousing welcome by workers of the party on his arrival in the city after assuming the new office.
