MULTAN, Sept 18: A special committee constituted by the Punjab chief minister interviewed the probables for the slot of the Bahauddin Zakariya University vice-chancellor at the provincial capital on Friday.

Punjab Education Minister Mian Imran Masood headed the committee while provincial education secretary Shahid Rasheed, communication and works secretary Sibtain Fazal-i-Aleem and retired civil servant Mehr Jeevan Khan were its members.

The candidates interviewed among the BZU professors in order of seniority were Dr Karamat Ali, Dr Hayat Awan and Dr G R Pasha. The interviews were conducted by the committee at the Quaid-i-Azam Library.

The interview committee was reportedly proposed by the CM secretariat in the same letter through which the retirement of outgoing VC Prof Dr Ghulam Mustafa Chaudhry was ordered on July 14 this year. Prof Dr Karamat Ali was appointed the acting VC till further orders.

The interviews have been conducted after over two months of constitution of the committee.

Meanwhile, the university syndicate has not been able to meet during the last almost three months after the elevation of Justice Tassaduq Husain Jilani to the Supreme Court and expiry of the three-year term of the syndicate's member, Begum Ashiq Muhammad Khan Mazari.

Justice Jilani was appointed to represent the judiciary in the BZU syndicate as its senior member by the LHC chief justice.
