US 'regrets' killing of Afghan youth

KABUL, Sept 18: The US military apologized on Saturday for killing one Afghan youth and injuring another in a clash with militants in southern Uruzgan province a day earlier, a spokesman said.

"The coalition deeply regrets and apologizes for the death of one juvenile and wounding of another in Uruzgan province yesterday," Major Scott Nelson said during a news briefing.

Major Nelson said the incident happened in the Deh Chopan district of southern province during a battle between US-led troops and militants.

"The juveniles failed to halt after repeated warnings. The incident is under investigation," Maj Nelson said without giving further details.

Major Mark McCann said it was still unclear whether the youths were armed, how old they were, or how the incident occurred.-AFP
