Only foreign militants were killed in camp attack: ISPR
RAWALPINDI, Sept 17: The operation in the Wana area is only targeted against terrorists and extremist elements, says Director-General Inter-Services Public Relations Maj-Gen Shaukat Sultan.
He was talking to newsmen here on Friday. The Director-General of ISPR said that those who were killed in the Sept 9 attack on the terrorist training camp in the Wana area were foreigners.
He said that the security forces had attacked the training camp after they were tipped off by various sources, including satellite photographs. Maj-Gen Sultan said that the security forces carried out a precise and calculated attack on the training camp to avoid any loss of civilian life in the area. He said that local residents had also confirmed that only foreigners had been killed in the attack.
The DG ISPR reiterated the amnesty offered by the government to foreign extremists in the Wana and adjoining areas and urged them to surrender and register themselves, adding that anyone who surrendered would not be handed over to any other country.
He said that after mopping up the Wana and Shakai areas, the government had started a clean-up operation in the Makin area. Maj-Gen Sultan said that a huge arms cache, including 400 rocket launchers, was recovered after a raid was conducted on the residence of Maulvi Shafiq in the Makin area the other day. -APP
