Indian major faces court martial

By J.N.

NEW DELHI, Sept 17: An Indian army major accused of staging fake encounters against make-believe Pakistani soldiers on the Siachen Glacier is to face court martial, reports said on Friday.

Quoting army sources, the reports said that Major Surinder Singh, accused of faking and filming the 'encounters' by using dead Indian soldiers as his non-existent Pakistani victims, would face the court martial, following lengthy investigations.

Press Trust of India said the army headquarters had completed examination of the summary of evidence recorded by a military court in Jodhpur.

The proceedings are to begin on Sept 21. An inquiry earlier this year had held Col K.D. Singh and Major R. Lamba responsible for administrative lapses. It had recommended action against Major Surinder.
