KARACHI: Students' protest enters fourth day

KARACHI, Sept 17: The action committee of a group of students at Dawood College of Engineering and Technology (DCET) on Friday staged another protest demonstration outside the college and boycotted academic activities.

They are demanding restoration of the DCET's accreditation to the Pakistan Engineering Council. The protesters raised slogans against DCET Principal Saleem Chaudhry for his alleged insulting behaviour with students and called for his resignation.

They also staged a sit-in at the main gate of the college demanding intervention by the Mehran University, Jamshoro, into the affair and play its role in getting a competent engineer appointed as the principal.

They claimed that for the last four days, no classes were being held at the DCET due to the boycott and demonstrations over the issue of accreditation but the college administration was sending fake attendance record to the Mehran university.

They said that their protest would continue until the restoration of DCET's accreditation and removal of the principal. Meanwhile, an official of the DCET said that classes at the college were held as usual though some activists of a students organization resorted to boycott on Friday. He said the activists blocked the road in front of the institution for some time. -PPI/APP
