KARACHI: Water shortage persists

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Sept 16: Various parts of the city remained in the grip of water scarcity for the third consecutive day on Thursday.

The hard-hit localities included Clifton's Block 2, Kharadar, Mithadar, Haqqani Chowk, Pakistan Chowk, a large number of buildings situated on either side of Baghdadi's D. D. Chaudhry Road, North Karachi's Sector 11-C and parts of Orangi Town.

Residents of the affected areas complained that although the water shortage problem had been lingering in their localities since the advent of summer, KWSB officials seemed least interested in resolving the issue despite a number of verbal and written complaints had been lodged with them.

Deploring that in the absence of piped water they had no choice but to either purchase private water tankers at exorbitant rates or consume sub-soil unhygienic water at the cost of their health, they demanded that acting City Nazim Tariq Hassan direct the KWSB officials to ensure uninterrupted supply.

MANHOLES: A large number of manholes continues to remain without cover, posing danger to the lives of pedestrians. At least six open manholes are on a footpath of Sir Aga Khan-III Road, opposite the PMA House.

A number of open manholes can be spotted all along the busy roads and streets of different localities, including PECHS, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, North Nazimabad, North Karachi, Nazimabad and cooperative housing societies, situated in the vicinity of Bahadurabad.
