KARACHI: Minister orders cancellation of detailments

KARACHI, Sept 16: The Sindh Education Minister, Dr Hamida Khuhro, on Thursday directed the Sindh secretary education for immediately cancelling all detailment orders of teachers to restart teaching activities at closed educational institutions and public schools in the province.

In separate meetings with delegations of the education department officials and the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI) at her office, she pledged that postings of senior officers of the education department would be made on merit and seniority basis.

She told the delegation of the education department that the standard of teaching could not be improved without cooperation of the masses, urging them to make coordinated efforts for providing quality education at public educational institutions.

The education minister also assured the delegation that suggestion for appointing separate EDOs of schools and higher education in other districts of Sindh like Karachi would also be given due consideration.

Later, talking to an 11-member delegation of the JUI headed by MPA Ehsanullah Hazarvi, she deplored that many schools were lying closed in the province due to detailment policy.

She said that most of the teachers wanted to perform their duties near to their residences and for that they approached the education department for detailment orders. "Owing to this policy, schools and educational institutions where these teachers should actually perform remain closed, with teachers getting themselves transferred to institutions near to their residences," she added.

The minister on the occasion directed the Secretary Education, Nadir Ali Markhiani, for immediate cancellation of all detailments orders. The delegation appreciated the education minister's steps taken for improvement of teaching standards and assured JUI's complete cooperation. - PPI
