KARACHI: Policeman shot dead by bandits

KARACHI, Sept 16: A policeman was shot dead when he offered resistance to bandits in Lyari on Thursday. Police said Abdul Ghani, 22, was on his motorcycle when two armed men intercepted him near Baloch Chowk.

As Ghani tried to put up resistance, they opened fire on him and fled on his motorcycle. The victim was taken to the Civil Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The victim was posted in Hyderabad.

DIES: A third year medical student, hailing from Multan, was found dead in his hostel room on Thursday. Police said Asad Aftab, 19, a student of the Aga Khan University Hospital was found dead in mysterious circumstances. His body was sent to JPMC for autopsy.

ACCIDENT: The cleaner of a truck died and its driver received injuries when a truck laden with sugar consignment over-turned on National Highway while trying to save a vehicle early Thursday. Police said that truck cleaner Ali died while driver Imtiaz received injuries.

SUICIDE: A fisherman hanged himself against the branch of a tree in Ibrahim Hyderi on Thursday. Police said Shabir Ahmed, 32, ended his life by hanging himself from a tree in Ali Mohammad Barohi Goth early morning.

INJURED: An elderly man jumped from the first floor of a court building after his failure to win a case pending in a labour court. Police said Rao Zulfiqar, 60, had a pending case in the labour court since 1992. During this period, his financial condition worsened. He had requested for a lawyer on state expenses.
