Senators urge NAB to look into PCB accounts
ISLAMABAD, Sept 15: A trio of senators has called upon the chairman of senate standing committee on sports to hold a final meeting with the officials of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and conclude its probe into the cricketing affairs.
Senators Enver Baig, Aslam Buledi and Murad Ali Shah, in a letter sent to senator Zafar Iqbal Chaudhry, who heads the committee, have said that it was unfortunate that the inquiry had still not been completed.
They recommended that before the report was finalised by the committee, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) hold an inquiry into the accounts of the PCB from Jan 4, 2004 to date as major financial irregularities were visible.
The senators also recommended that former chief executive of PCB, Ramiz Raja be directed to submit answers to a questionnaire given to the board's chairman Shaharyar M. Khan. They said that, pending clearance from NAB, Ramiz Raja's name be placed on the Exit Control List.
The trio termed the answers given by the PCB to questions raised by the committee, as insufficient and unsatisfactory. The senate standing committee on sports began investigating the reasons for Pakistan's defeat at home to India in May while also probing the administrative affairs of the PCB.
