Amnesty offer to militants renewed
PESHAWAR, Sept 14: The government has renewed its amnesty offer to all foreign terror suspects hiding in some areas of the South Waziristan region.
According to a handout, the offer was reiterated at a jirga comprising 200 elders of different sub-tribes of the main Ahmadzai Wazirs of South Waziristan who had called on Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah here on Monday.
"We have been repeatedly telling these people to come out of hiding, prove their identity and furnish guarantee of their local sponsors and live peacefully," the governor said. The government would not tolerate "irresponsible, negative and terrorist posture" of these elements and would take harshar measures if they did not change their attitude.
The government, he said, was committed to wiping out terrorism and would never compromise on its commitment it had taken in the larger national interests. He said that the military operation in South Waziristan was not against local tribesmen as was being projected by some vested interests, adding that only foreign terrorist elements were being targeted.
