PML district bodies support uniform

By Our Staff Reporter

LAHORE, Sept 14: Twenty-eight district organizations of the ruling PML have adopted resolutions that President Musharraf should retain his military uniform.

These resolutions have been sent to party's provincial secretary-general, Chaudhry Zaheerudin, who had directed all district organizations to lend support to the initiative launched by the provincial organization.

The remaining six district organizations will follow suit during the next few days. It is said that some organizations have posted their resolutions which will reach the provincial leadership any time.

Different wings of the ruling party have also been directed to pass resolutions in favour of president's uniform. It may be pointed out that the provincial PML general council and the Punjab Assembly have already passed resolutions that President Musharraf should not shed his uniform.

Meanwhile, Chaudhry Zaheerudin claimed in a press statement that opposition's negative propaganda stood exposed after Punjab Assembly's resolution in favour of Gen Musharraf and success of the ruling party candidate in the Senate election.

The opposition had lost the stamina needed to face the ruling party, he said. The PML leader claimed that the entire nation had a similar point of view on Gen Musharraf's uniform and those opposed to it were doing so under dictation from their leaders abroad.

Provincial information secretary Kamil Ali Agha said President Musharraf's assertion that 96 per cent people wanted to see him in uniform was no exaggeration. He claimed that it was a matter of great satisfaction for the people that President Musharraf and the PML had harmony of thought.

Senator Agha said it was because of Gen Musharraf's policies that the country was on the highway to progress. He was critical of opposition's decision to boycott the Senate seat election. Defeat and victory, he said, were part of the game and the opposition had violated democratic values by staying away from the contest.
