India briefs EU on Kasuri's visit

By J.N.

NEW DELHI, Sept 13: Indian Foreign Minister Kunwar Natwar Singh met his counterpart in the European Commission, Chris Patten, in Brussels on Monday, and briefed him on the ongoing composite dialogue with Pakistan.

An Indian foreign ministry statement said that, during the meeting, Mr Patten highlighted EU's ambition to put their relationship with India at a higher strategic level.

Both leaders reviewed the world scenario and exchanged views on the developments in the South Asia region as well as in Iraq, Afghanistan and the Middle East. Mr Singh gave a briefing on the composite dialogue with Pakistan including his recent meeting last week with Mr Kasuri in New Delhi.

There was no word on whether or how Mr Singh had responded to a long pending European Union request to allow international human rights observers in Jammu and Kashmir.
