QUETTA, Sept 11: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal leaders have cautioned the government that military operations in Wana and Balochistan were suicidal attempts, and innocent citizens were being killed.
They stressed that the rulers must abandon pro-American stance and formulate a policy that reflected the aspirations of the people.
The MMA leaders and activists, on the eve of the third anniversary of 9/11, took out a procession on Saturday from Jamia mosque and marched on the main road, chanting slogans in favour of Mulla Omar and the alliance leadership and against presidents George Bush and Pervez Musharraf.
The protesters also burnt an effigy of Bush.
The rally culminated at Manan chowk where MMA deputy parliamentary leader in the National Assembly Hafiz Hussain Ahmed, provincial minister for local government Hafiz Hussain Ahmed Shurudy, MNA Maulana Noor Muhammad and Maulana Abdul Qadir Luni addressed them.
MMA central leader Hafiz Hussain said that the United States had failed to impose its writ outside Kabul during last three years after invading Afghanistan.
Similarly, he added, it was facing stiff resistance in Iraq, which proved that imperialist forces could not subdue the people through the use of force.
He claimed that American CIA in collaboration with Zionist lobby had planned the attack on Twin Towers in New York and the Pentagon in Washington but the Bush administration put the blame on Taliban government in order to exploit the incident against the Muslim world.
Criticizing President Musharraf for supporting American policies to undermine the interest of Muslim Ummah, he said that Muslim resistance movements in different countries would not surrender before the aggressors and would continue fighting till victory.
The MMA leader also asked President Musharraf either to shed the armyuniform by Dec 31 or quit the post of the president to fulfil the requirement of the 17th Amendment.
He warned that there would be serious repercussions if the government did not end the ongoing military operation in Wana, and maintained that the MMA leadership did not want a conflict between army and the tribesmen.
He further said that the rulers must abandon the idea of launching military operation in Balochistan as that would be suicidal adding that the MMA would not allow the government to play with the lives of the people.
Hafiz Hussain said that ISI, MI and IB staff raided his house and Madressah but that action could not tame him, stressing that he was ready to sacrifice his life to protect Islam and Madaris.
The protesters later dispersed peacefully. Heavy contingent of police was deployed around the meeting venue.
