NAWABSHAH: MNA backs Bhasha dam project

Published September 12, 2004

NAWABSHAH, Sept 11: MNA Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho has said Punjab should revive the confidence of other provinces in the matter of construction of dams.

Talking to journalists here on Thursday, she said construction of water reservoirs was necessary but there was no surety that Punjab would keep its promise regarding water distribution as the Chashma link canal was built as a flood canal but it was running throughout year.

She said three provinces had reservations over construction of the Kalabagh dam and provincial assemblies, except for Punjab, had passed resolutions against the project.

The legislator said the Bhasha dam should be constructed as no province had any objection to the project.

About the change at the Centre, she said incompetent persons had been taken in the cabinet who could not resolve people's problems.

She said there was a presidential system in the country because Gen Musharraf was enjoying all powers.
