Court orders re-bid in Indian TV rights deal

MUMBAI, Sept 9: Indian cricket's record sale of television rights for US$308m was put on hold on Thursday after a court proposed a re-bid following objections from the sports network which missed out, a report said.

ESPN-Star Sports, jointly owned by Disney and media mogul Rupert Murdoch, challenged the decision in Mumbai High Court earlier this week after Indian cricket chiefs awarded four-year rights to Zee network, India's largest media company.

Judges D. S. Bhandari and D. Y. Chandrachud suggested fresh bids be submitted to the court but Zee lawyers wanted till Tuesday to decide on the judges' plea, the Press Trust of India (PTI) news agency said. -AFP
