THATTA: Seminar held on girls' education

By Our Correspondent

THATTA, Sept 9: A seminar was held on girls' education in Mirpur Bathoro here on Thursday. Mirpur Bathoro Union Council Nazim Mohammad Ali Khwaja, social activist Manghan Lal Sharma , Aijaz Ali Khwaja, Vengas Mangi, Unicef representative Ali Raza Khushik, Khalid Memon, Ismail Memon and Madam Ghulam Fatima Memon spoke at the seminar, which was a part of a three-day awareness campaign to encourage girls' education.

They observed that lack of coordination between the education department and non-governmental monitoring agencies, as well as lack of interest by parents, were reasons for low literacy rate and poor standard of education.

They said 23 NGOs were working in rural areas to motivate people to send girls to schools. They said the ratio of girls' primary education in the Thatta district in comparison to other parts of Sindh was only 18 per cent. The Takhleeq Foundation had organized the seminar.

BAN: District Nazim Syed Shafqat Hussain Shah Shirazi has imposed a ban on slaughter of calves and sick animals.
