Student's killers indicted

By Our Correspondent

NEW YORK, Sept 8: Three American teenagers accused in the murder of a Pakistani student will be arraigned in a New Jersey court on Tuesday, almost one year after the incident.

The teenagers accused of killing Nabeel Siddiqui last September have been officially indicted as adults by the grand jury. They will now be tried in the New Jersey Supreme Court.

According to sources close to the court officials, the accused would be brought to the court on Sept 8, 2004, adding that that they had been indicted by the grand jury of New Jersey.

Nabeel Siddiqui, a computer science major who graduated from New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) last summer, died on Oct 6, 2003, at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey's University Hospital in Newark following an assault on Sept 27, 2003.

He was attacked while delivering a pizza to a New Jersey suburb. According to a police report, the resident of that address was not home at the time of the attack and later told police no one there had ordered a pizza.

Nabeel suffered brutal neurological injuries and trauma, which caused severe damage to different parts of his brain.

According to the police report, Nabeel was conscious when an emergency medical service crew arrived and said: "His assailants had struck him in the head with a baseball bat, and then drove off in his 1995 silver Nissan. The vehicle was recovered later with his wallet, containing credit cards, cash US$30, and his NJIT ID card.
