ISLAMABAD, Sept 8: The top Kashmiri leadership from Azad Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday warned Pakistan not to abandon its stand on Kashmir, saying a change in the stand would not only be harmful for the people of Kashmir, but would also damage Pakistan.

Speaking to the chairman of the special parliamentary committee on Kashmir, Chaudhry Hamid Nasir Chattha and its members, the Kashmiri leadership said the UN resolutions had given legitimacy to the stand taken by Pakistan and it should in no circumstances abandon its stand on the implementation of UN resolutions calling for plebiscite in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

Kashmiri leaders, including AJK president Sardar Muhammad Anwar Khan, Prime Minister Sardar Sikandar Hayat Khan, former premier Sardar Muhammad Abdul Qayuum Khan, Hayat Khan, Justice Abdul Majeed Malik, Sardar Ateeq Ahmed Khan, Sardar Ijaz Afazl, Maulana Ghulam Raza Naqvi, Amanullah Khan, Maulana Muhammad Nazir Farooqi, Maulana Shahabuddin and Sardar Khalid Ibrahim Khan held a detailed meeting with the Kashmir committee at the Parliament House.

They urged Islamabad not to adopt apologetic attitude on the Kashmir issue, adding that despite having a strong case based on justice, Pakistan had failed to plead it properly. They voiced concern over Pakistan's engagement in dialogue with India without any road map.

The leaders said India had been engaging Pakistan in the past in similar dialogues just to gain time and was again doing the same trick. India, they said, had intensified human rights violations in the occupied Kashmir, was constructing barrages and had erected barbed fences alongside ceasefire line, but Pakistan remained silent.

This silence of Pakistan, they said, had created suspicion among the Kashmiri people on both sides of the LoC. The fencing was like cutting of the body into two, they said and questioned what action Pakistan had taken in this regard.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Chattha assured the Kashmiri leadership that Pakistan would stand steadfast with the people of Kashmir as hearts of Pakistanis throbbed with the hearts of Kashmiris.

Leader of the opposition Maulana Fazlur Rahman, who is also member of the Kashmir committee, also assured the Kashmiri leadership that the whole nation was united on the Kashmir issue.
