Task forces for crops on the anvil

ISLAMABAD, Sept 8: Food, Agriculture and Livestock Minister Skandar Hayat Bohsan on Wednesday announced the establishment of task forces of each main crop for working out effective measures for enhancing their production.

This he stated in a meeting with senior officials of Minfal here on Wednesday. The meeting was also attended by the state minister and secretary for Minfal and the chairman of the Pakistan Agriculture and Research Council.

The minister said these task forces would include members from agriculture universities and agriculture research departments. The task forces would analyze and present reports to Minfal with ground realities so that effective measures could be adopted in a real way to boost economy, he added.

Mr Bohsan said the livestock sector contributed more than 37 per cent of the agricultural GDP and accounted for 12.34 per cent of the total foreign exchange earnings of the country.

He said Pakistan had great potential in the livestock sector. Therefore, experts are needed to develop a comprehensive strategy to boost this important sector of the country, he added.
