FAISALABAD, Sept 6: Police is still in a fix about the registration of a 'murder' case of alleged Al-Qaeda activist Qari Noor Muhammad despite filing of a written application by his father-in-law, Qari Muhammad Tayyab, a week ago.
Insiders told this correspondent here on Monday that there were certain 'hurdles' in this regard like selection of place of occurrence, accused nominated in the complaint and genuineness of the allegation.
They said the police was under tremendous pressure since the arrest and the subsequent death of Mr Noor Muhammad during custody. The Qari was rounded up from the Factory Area police limits on the night of Aug 13 and allegedly tortured at some unknown place.
The arrest was telecast by the media. However, almost four days after the arrest, the police surprisingly claimed that Qari Noor was held by Kotwali police on Aug 17 along with some explosive material, foreign currency and objectionable cassettes.
The police had further claimed that the Qari had a cardiac arrest and died on the way to hospital. Immediately after his death, Imamuddin and Qari Obaidullah, two alleged accomplices of the Qari, were released from Sargodha Road police station.
The contradiction in the police claim and the report of the complainant about the site and date of arrest of Qari Noor is the 'main hurdle' for filing the case. Almost 11 days after his death, Qari Tayyab had moved an application for the registration of a murder case on Aug 31.
The applicant had claimed that Qari Noor was nabbed along his student, Imamuddin, during a raid on Jamia Mosque Mubarik, Dijkot Road, on the night of Aug 13. But Qari Obaidullah, the city MMA president, was picked up by plainclothesmen of police from outside Aminpur Bazaar.
Qari Noor was tortured along with his two companions in the custody due to which he died. Despite a lapse of over a week, no formal proceedings has been initiated by the local police except posting the application to the record branch of the DPO office.
