KARACHI, Sept 6: City Nazim Naimatullah Khan has said that the work on five more flyovers will begin within the next three months.
The flyovers to be constructed at different busy traffic intersections such as Hassan Square, Sohrab Goth and Landhi would help streamline traffic flow at these intersections, he added.
He was addressing at the inaugural ceremony of the city government's model park set up at Shah Faisal Town on Sunday. The park has been developed on 38,000sq-feet in UC-3 of the town, near Shah Faisal police station.
After inaugurating the park, the nazim announced that the city government besides developing model parks in all towns of the city without any discrimination would also develop exclusive parks for women and children.
Reiterating city government's commitment to provide better transport facilities to citizens, he said that the city government was striving hard to bring new buses in the city to replace the existing 20-year-old buses.
Besides, he said that the government was successfully embarking upon a plan of laying a network of life-long roads, bridges and flyovers throughout the metropolis.
He said that the quantum of pollution would be decreased to a great extent with the introduction of CNG buses in Karachi. Among others, the inaugural ceremony was attended by Shah Faisal Town Nazim Haji Mushtaq, Naib Nazim Islamuddin and UC Nazim Riaz Mohammad.
MEDICAL INSTITUTE: Naimatullah Khan has announced that construction of Karachi Institute of Heart Diseases will be completed in November, adds PPI. "The latest machinery and equipment have been imported for the institute, which would give the cardio patients emergency medical treatment," he said.
The nazim was addressing at a ceremony held in connection with donation of two ambulances to the KIHD by a company on Monday. He said that the city government could not carry out all development projects with its own resources and urged philanthropists and non-government organizations to help government in welfare of people.
"Financial help of philanthropists and organizations is needed to curb menace of beggary, drugs and to initiate the construction of schools, hospitals and other development schemes," he said.
Naimatullah Khan claimed that the city government was functioning by adhering to principles of trust, honesty, transparency and merit. However, he said that there was dearth of honest officials. "We are trying to do remarkable work, which could be remembered for long," he said.
About education reforms, he said that self-finance scheme for admission to institutions had been abolished and there would be no admission to colleges on sports quota. "Admissions would be made purely on merit and all allocated quotas have been done away," he added.
Also present on the occasion, Dr Hamid Shafqat said that philanthropists and different organizations had helped for resolution of national problems.
AQUARIUM: Following the directives of city nazim, the city government has decided to revive the Clifton Aquarium, lying closed for the last seven years. The decision was taken during a meeting, presided over by EDO (Works and Services) Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, on Monday.
Earlier, the city government had decided to revive the aquarium on BOT basis. However, on the special directive of City Nazim Naimatullah Khan, the revival work would be carried out by the city government. Consultant was appointed in this regard, who had already presented the revival plan. The plan after being reviewed would be submitted to the city nazim.
