HYDERABAD: HEC approves four Sindh varsity projects

HYDERABAD, Sept 4: The Higher Education Commission has approved four development projects to be carried out at the University of Sindh at a cost of Rs274.141 million.

According to the planning and development department of the university, the HEC has released funds for the projects pertaining to construction of new buildings of teaching departments, seminar halls and hostels at the Elsa Kazi campus in Hyderabad and the Allama I. I. Kazi Campus in Jamshoro.

The commission has sanctioned Rs191.312 million for buildings of departments of microbiology, English and mass communication and the Institute of Fine Arts and Design at the Allama I. I. Kazi campus.

An amount of Rs37.397 million has been sanctioned to provide support facilities at two seminar halls at the Hyderabad campus and construct a postgraduate hostel and rehabilitate an auditorium at the Jamshoro campus.

The HEC has also approved Rs29.875 million for construction of an undergraduate boys' hostel and Rs15.557 million for construction of a hostel for visiting foreign faculty at the Allama I. I. Kazi campus.

LECTURE: A lecture on "Abiding by Traffic Rules and Regulations for Safety of Lives" was organized by National Highway and Motorway police for employees and drivers of the University of Sindh on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, university registrar Prof (Dr) Saeed Ahmad Soomro said accidents could be avoided by following traffic rules and improving road conditions.

Syed Farhan, inspector of National Highway and Motorway police, claimed that 90 per cent of accidents took place due to drivers' lack of knowledge of traffic rules.

He said police had launched a campaign to create awareness among people regarding traffic rules through lectures and discussions at educational institutes.

APPOINTMENT: The federal government has appointed Prof (Dr) Mohammad Yar Khuhawar, director of the Dr M. A. Kazi Institute of Chemistry, University of Sindh, a part-time member of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission for three years.
