KARACHI: Setting up of vigilance bodies ordered
KARACHI, Sept 3: Sindh Education Minister Dr Hamida Khuhro has directed the secretary education to constitute two vigilance committees at district level throughout the province to check and monitor the attendance of teachers at educational institutions.
Referring to the establishment of vigilance committees at Hyderabad, she called for such committees for colleges and technical institutions comprising EDO, DO Colleges, senior principals and noted educationists.
She said that the committees for secondary educational institutes would be comprised of EDOs, DOs Colleges, DOs Secondary and Higher Secondary, DO Elementary, DO Literacy and educationists with clean record.
Dr Khuhro said that these committees would be authorized to pay surprise visits to educational institutes to check punctuality of staff, cleanliness of premises, discipline, quality of education, time table, maintenance of record, condition of laboratories, libraries and utilization of funds. She further said that the committees would submit report directly to her.
The education minister also took serious notice of report received from the minister for planning and development over the slow pace of implementation of De-centralizing Elementary Education Programme (DEEP). She directed the education secretary to submit the report in this regard at the earliest.
The minister for planning and development, in a letter, had complained that important project components of the DEEP, including civil works, had been stagnating for unknown reasons. Dr Khuhro said that she was striving hard to address the alarming drop out of children after primary education and expedite the DEEP implementation. -APP
