KARACHI:Return of klashnikovs ordered

KARACHI, Sept 3: A division bench of High Court of Sindh, comprising Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali and Justice Maqbool Baqer, on Friday allowed a miscellaneous application filed by Amin Fabrics seeking return of six klashnikovs deposited by the applicant company with the Nazir of the SHC.

Earlier, Khawaja Naveed Ahmed, appearing for the applicants, informed the bench that 11 constitutional petitions were disposed of by a bench of SHC which overruled the en bloc cancellation of arms licences by Nawaz Sharif government and directed the government to review case of petitioners on individual basis.

He submitted that the state went into an appeal against this order before the Supreme Court which also upheld the order of the SHC. The counsel further submitted that their licences have been restored and they have paid the fee along with fine, penalty etc. He prayed to the court to order return of the arms.

Standing council Ziauddin Nasir first sought adjournment stating that a copy of the petition is not supplied to him at which the counsel for petitioner stated that copies have been supplied and the former DAG Barrister Khursheed Hashmi has appeared many times.

The SC opposed the prayer, on which the bench observed that petitions have already been decided and an application before court is simply for return of property. The bench, with this observation, ruling aside the objection by the standing council allowed the appeal directing the Nazir to return the arms after proper identification of the applicant. -APP
