Govt policy on refugees criticized

ISLAMABAD, Aug 31: PPP MNA Zamurad Khan on Tuesday said his party would extend cooperation in proceeding with the bill for amendment to Foreigners Act, already drafted and to be tabled in the National Assembly in collaboration with Parliamentarians' Commission for Human Rights.

Speaking at a seminar, he criticized the government's policy on refugees and said they only sabotaged the commitment of cooperation that had been displayed by the people and the state for more than two decades.

With reference to crackdowns on refugees, he criticized the arresting and detaining of the refugees without charges. MPA Farzana Raja called for revising of policies concerning refugees to ensure protection of their rights. She stressed on extending material as well as non-material support to the refugees.
