HAFIZABAD, Aug 31: Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has deputed SSP (investigation cell) Dr Arif Mushtaq to probe the alleged police high-handedness with the villagers, including women at Dubbar village.

Reports said a police team raided the village on Sunday to arrest Khizar Hayat, a bank defaulter. Mr Hayat was not at home, but the police arrested his six-year-old son Naeem and wife Kulsoom.

On way to the police station, MNA Chaudhry Mehdi Bhatti along with his relatives intercepted the officials and got the woman and her son released after an exchange of hot words. Later, the police registered a case against the MNA and his men for interference in official duty.

On Monday night, around 200 policemen reportedly raided the village for arresting Mehdi and his relatives, Mubashar, Ghazanfar and Qadus. The officials searched a number of houses and misbehaved with the villagers, including women.

As a result teeth of five women were broken. Some villagers said the police took away valuables worth hundreds of thousands of rupees. None of the accused was arrested.

Thereafter, on a tip-off that Qadus was present at the outhouse of Nazar Abbas, Mehdi's brother, at Burj Dara, the police conducted a raid and recovered a person, Mukhtar, who had been found tied with rope. However, the accused could not be arrested.
