KARACHI, Aug 30: Five persons, including two policemen, suffered acid burns as the brother of a woman, who married against the will of her family, threw acid on them at the City Courts.

Khadija and her husband Ismail were appearing in the court for the hearing of a case lodged by Khadija's family against the couple.

Khadija and Ismail tied their nuptial knot in a court of law in Quetta. In Karachi, the girl's family lodged an FIR against the couple at the Saeedabad police station on which the police arrested Ismail and his brother, Nadeem.

As Ismail and Nadeem appeared in the court on Monday, they were attacked by Ibrahim, the brother of the woman, who threw acid on them. Those standing nearby also suffered wounds. They included Mukhtar, a suspect in a dacoity case, and two constables.

On Monday, Khadija was supposed to record her statement. The injured were shifted to the Civil Hospital for treatment. Ibrahim has been arrested and an FIR was also registered against him.
