CHAGHAI, Aug 29: Six armed men stopped two pick-ups coming from Afghanistan on Sunday and held 16 passengers hostage on Sunday, officials said.

The captors released drivers of the pick-ups, Ghulam Rasool and Wali Khan, and shifted others, including women and children, to some unknown place and demanded heavy ransom for their release.

AFGHAN POLLS: A United Nations monitoring team arrived in Dalbandin, the district headquarters of Chaghai, and met Afghan elders in the Girdi Jungle refugee camp on Sunday.

The team will set up a field office at Dalbandin and stay there for two months to register refugees in the electoral list for the Afghan presidential elections. Polling stations will be set up at various points in the district for the purpose, the officials said.
