KARACHI, Aug 29: A total of 2,872 agitation activities, including hunger strike, protest demonstration and rally and sit-in, were recorded till Aug 24 this year in Sindh.

The number of such events in Karachi region stood at 755 as against 1,297 in Hyderabad region and 820 in Sukkur region, a report compiled by the provincial police department stated.

Out of the total 943 hunger strikes, 258 were observed in Karachi, 427 in Hyderabad and 133 in Sukkur whereas out of the total 766 demonstrations staged in Sindh, 292 were held in Karachi, 341 in Hyderabad and 133 in Sukkur.

According to the report, 794 processions - 145 in Karachi, 335 in Hyderabad and 314 in Sukkur - were taken out during the period. On 109 occasions, protesters blocked various roads.

Fifteen such incidents took place in Karachi, 56 in Hyderabad and 38 in Sukkur. The break up of 97 events of sit-in was eight in Karachi, 65 in Hyderabad and 24 in Sukkur. There had been two general strikes, two pen-down strikes and two shutter-down strikes in Hyderabad whereas one general strike, eight pen-down strikes and two shutters down strikes in Sukkur during the period. -PPI
