GUJRANWALA: Construction on park protested

GUJRANWALA, Aug 28: Activists of a students organization and citizens took out a protest procession here on Saturday against the proposed construction of a building for a government department at a recreational park in Wazirabad.

Reports said the government wanted to construct the building at Nawaz Sharif park on the GT Road and accorded approval to that effect.

Meanwhile, scores of citizens, including Anjuman Talaba Islam activists, marched on Sialkot Road and GT Road against the plan. They were carrying banners and placards and chanting slogans against the government.

The protesters said that they would besiege the offices of the district administration if the plan was not dropped immediately.

SUICIDE: A woman committed suicide over a monetary row here on Saturday in Ladheywala Warriach village.

Reports said Rukhsana, the mother of five children, quarrelled with her husband over a financial issue and swallowed poison. Later, she died at the DHQ hospital

CABLE CHANNEL: Activists of various religious parties expressed their resentment over screening of porno movies by cable operators.

At a meeting held at Sheranwala Bagh Jamia Masjid, they demanded a ban on the cable operators who were spreading obscenity in society.
