KARACHI, Aug 27: A large number of contract teachers of primary schools from Mirpurkhas on Friday staged a protest demonstration outside the Karachi Press Club for regularization of their jobs.

Holding placards, the protesting teachers chanted slogans against government authorities. Talking to newsmen, the president, Contract Primary School Teachers Association, Mirpur Khas, Sain Bakhsh Wasan and General Secretary Ghulam Mustafa Hoat Baloch, said that primary school teachers were appointed in 2001-02 on contract for a period of three years on a fix monthly pay of Rs2,773.

Expressing concern about their jobs, they said that after completion of their contract period, the government had not announced any policy regarding their future, and they feared of being deprived of their jobs.

They demanded the government to issue orders to regularize all contract teachers. The teachers warned that if their regularization was not announced within seven days, they would stage a protest demonstration in front of the Assembly building. - PPI
