SUKKUR: Three killed in Ghotki clash between clans

SUKKUR, Aug 26: A gun battle between Mahar and Pitafi clansmen started in Kehar Pitafi and Kiran Kot villages following the killing of two Mahars by unknown armed men in Khanpur, Ghotki district on Thursday morning.

As a result, a seven-year-old child, Nazar Mohammad Pitafi, was killed in crossfire. Two Mahar tribesmen were gunned down and another was injured by unknown armed men in the limits of Khanpur Mahar police station.

Jaffar Mahar, 25, was on his way to the Gaji minor bridge when armed men opened fire on him. He died on the spot. In another incident, some unknown armed motorcyclists killed a bus driver, Murad Mahar, at the Makhai bus stop and fled.

Khamiso Mahar was injured when some unknown armed men fired upon him near Khangarh town. Murad Mahar is said to be the driver of Sardar Mohammad Bux Mahar. Hundreds of armed Mahars reached Khanpur Mahar as panic and harassment prevailed in the area. They claimed Pitafis were behind the kilings.

Later, they attacked Kehar Pitafi village, opened indiscriminate firing. The two groups also launched rockets on each others' positions. Tension mounted in the area as Pitafi and Mahar clansmen confined to their homes and armed men from the two groups entrenched against each other. Heavy contingents of police rushed to the scene. The gun battle continued till the filing of this report.

TWO KILLED: Two brothers were killed and two women were injured when an oil tanker hit a donkey-cart on the National Highway near Machi Bindo near Kandhkot on Thursday morning.

Moosa Ogahi, 15, and seven-year-old Samad Ogahi, along with their mother Waziran and another woman Allah Dini were on their way to Karampur on a donkey-cart when hit by an oil tanker coming from Rajanpur.

As a result Moosa and Samad Ogahi were killed on the spot while their mother Waziran and another woman Allah Dini were injured and shifted to Ghouspur hospital.

The oil tanker after hitting the donkey cart fell into a fish farm due to which five buffaloes were also killed. The Karampur police arrested oil tanker driver Shahzam Ahmadani and cleaner Abdul Sattar.
