RAWALPINDI: Bar condemns attack on Najaf

By Our Reporter

RAWALPINDI, Aug 26: The District Bar Association unanimously passed a resolution on Thursday, condemning the attack on the holy city of Najaf by US forces and called upon them to restrain themselves from targeting the holy shrines.

In a meeting, DBA acting president Abdur Rashid Orakzai said if the US forces did not observe the sanctity of the holy shrines, the lawyers in Pakistan would come out on roads and would protest not only against the US, but also against the Pakistani government, which was serving as the frontline state in the US war on 'so-called' terror.

Zulfiqar Abbas Naqvi advocate, in his address, said the US had damaged the holy shrine of Imam Ali and was exercising state terrorism in Iraq. He said it was time Muslims forged unity among their ranks and united against American terrorism.

They said it was a matter of shame for the entire Muslim world that one brother Islamic country was facing the blows of American imperialism, while the rest were standing there without helping them.

The speakers also asked the government to remove all US military bases from Pakistani land as the US was at war with other Muslim countries. They said it was crystal clear that the US had captured Iraq for oil and to help Israel and make it so powerful that it could usurp the freedom and rights of the Arabs and Palestinians without facing any resistance.
