JUI condemns raids on mosques

By Our Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Aug 25: Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam on Wednesday condemned the recent raids of law-enforcement agencies on Jamia Fareediya and Jamia Syedda Hifsa (Lal Masjid) and rejected the government's allegations regarding connections of some students of these institutions with terrorists.

In a meeting, the JUI general secretary of Islamabad chapter, Maulana Qari Abdul Rashid, said the government's allegations against religious seminaries and raids on mosques would further deteriorate the law and order situation.

He said it was neither in the national interests nor in the interests of Islam to label religious leaders or institutions with the fake brand of terrorism.

Other JUI leaders said Ulema were ready to sacrifice lives to defend the honour of mosques and seminaries. He said federal ministers including Shaikh Rashid Ahmed, Faisal Saleh Hayat and Ijazul Haq were issuing statements against mosques and seminaries without even investigating the situation on ground.
