80 prisoners arriving from US today

By Our Staff Reporter

RAWALPINDI, Aug 25: A batch of 80 Pakistani prisoners will arrive at Islamabad airport on a chartered flight from the United States on Thursday afternoon, a source said.

However, it was not known whether the prisoners included those held in the Guantanamo Bay in Cuba. According to official sources, 36 Pakistani citizens are still imprisoned in the Guantanamo Bay, who are expected to be released soon.

The first batch of five Pakistanis was released in early 2003 while the second group of 11 was freed in July 2003. The 80 Pakistanis, who are arriving in Islamabad amid tight security, are expected to be allowed to go homes after brief questioning by security officials.
