KARACHI: Lyari road in shambles
By Our Staff Reporter
KARACHI, 25: Heavy traffic on a vital link road in Lyari Town has perturbed residents in Baghdadi union council area. The road, housing a telephone exchange and a number of government and private schools
, colleges and a technical institute, links Shah Latif Bhittai road with Lea Market.
According to residents, Mir Mohammad Baloch and D.D. Chaudhary roads are in deplorable conditions for the past three years, adding that due to delay in repair and carpeting works, Mir Mohammad Baloch road had been closed for traffic.
As a result, the entire traffic between Lea Market, Baghdadi, Nawabad, Shah Latif Bhittai Road, Shah Waliullah Road and other parts of the old city were being diverted on to D.D. Chaudhary Road. As such, complete chaos was witnessed day and night, disrupting normal civic life in the locality.
Residents complained that all appeals for early completion of repair works and opening of the Mir Mohammad Baloch Road had gone unheeded. They said if the Mir Mohammad Baloch Road was opened for vehicular traffic, huge load of traffic plying on D.D. Chaudhary Road, could be reduced.
Since there were no footpaths on D.D. Chaudhary Road, pedestrians could not move freely, they added. In an appeal, members of the Mohallah Committee have urged the city nazim to visit the locality.
